7A: Loaves have arrived

Students who need a copy of the The Greatest Thing Since Sliced Bread may purchase a copy directly from their homeroom teacher at a cost of $12.

Grade 7 Science Homework and Update:

Heat Project: During the next Day 1 you will be meeting the rest of the members from your company. During the Double-Period our Teacher Candidates from York will be leading a discussion on Particle Theory of Heat.

Homework: take a few moments to summarize some of the ideas from the centres during the last double period. Define the following words: conduction, convection, radiation, insulation, endothermic, exothermic.

Tests Returned: Theory tests will be returned this week, portfolios and hands on test results next week. There are still some people who have not submitted their hands-on test portfolios.

Need Help? Time? In Grade 7?

Room 16 is open Wednesday 2 April as early as 0745hrs if you need time, space, or help to get caught up on your work, or some extra help.

URGENT: Grade 7 Science!

As the 7/8 Badminton teams are playing in the afternoon, 7A and 7B will have their science periods in the morning, so during your regular scheduled science periods (periods 6s and 5 respectively) you will be working on some core-related work.

Have your heating system idea researched

7A Tuesday homework summary

Language: historical character research: 3-5 talking points about Dewey and Roosevelt: pushed to Friday

Math: create your own question. On a half-sheet of paper, or two index cards, write your name on one side of both of them, and then create a question and write it on one card. Write the solution on the other.

Today we looked at solving equivalent statements.

4a + 7= 5a + 1
9b -21 = 6b
6c + 7 = 4c + 25
2d + 3 = 4d - 4

We discussed that manipulating the statement to isolate the variable is more accurate, and a better use of our time, than the guess and check method.

Kick Flip (Inverse Operation)

4a + 7 = 5a + 1 (the right side has the larger "a" term, so let's kick the 4a over. 4a is positive)

7 = 5a +1 - 4a (now in order to isolate the variable we need to "group like terms" and the 1 is not "like")

7 - 1 = 5a - 4a (simplify)

6 = a

See-saw (Balanced Operation) what you do to one side you shall do to the other

4a + 7 = 5a + 1 (the right side has the larger "a" term, so let's remove 4a from the left)

4a + 7 - 4a = 5a + 1 - 4a (better simplify this before it gets messy)

7 = 5a - 4a + 1

7 = a + 1 (isolate the variable, then simplify again)

7 - 1 = a + 1 - 1

6 = a

Grade 8 Science: Extra help

If you would like some extra assistance with physics, send your science teacher an email asap. Sessions are available at lunchtime.
