Welcome to 7A dance! Today we discussed the 5 elements of dance. They are:
Body awareness - shapes, full and whole body movement, facial expression, levels
Time - musicality, tempo, beat, pace, speed
Relationship- to each other, to the space, to a prop, emotions, facial expression
Space - where are you placed in the room, levels
Energy - quality of the movement, flow, sharp, direct, indirect, fluid
We also discussed Shapes:
How do we make shapes in our body?
-use of the whole body, limbs, torso, spine, etc.
-levels will help to demonstrate
-shapes can start as triangle and circles
-they can also show an interpretation of lyrics or stories in different ways
Lets compare and contrast the two videos viewed in class, The Dying Swan and Set Fire.
What energies are similar or different?
How do the dancers use imagery in each sequence?

The Dying Swan

The energies in each dance was slow and relaxed because in each dance the don't move too fast, they move relatively slow. They both used imagery in their dances because they both use body language to express the emotions. For example when the song says "shout" he uses his hand to look like he's shouting.
ReplyDeleteBoth dances show very sharp movements as well as loose flowing motions to create a great contrast. In set fire I would say that there was more square shapes opposed to the free flowing motions in the dying swan. Imagery is used in both pieces to convey emotion and to reflect the music. In the dying swan she flaps her "wings" or her arms to tell us that the swan is flying. In set fire he uses the lyrics of the song to inspire body language and movement, for example when the artist sings something about her knees being to week he displays this by making a falling motion.
ReplyDeleteBoth of the performances had very fast movements and motions according to the music. The dancers also made motions of words in the song like when the ballet dancer made her body look like a swan and the set fire dancer made a shouting motion when the song said shout. They used imagery because the dancers used body language to show there emotions.
ReplyDeleteThe Dying Swan compared to Set Fire is very different with the energy, movements, and music. The Dying Swan has very slow speed music, making the energy slow. Set Fire has a fast and upbeat song making the energy fast. The movements in The Dying Swan are fluid and flowing. Set Fire, however, has sharp movements along with flowing movements. Both dancers showed the dances differently. In The Dying Swan the dancer is the swan. In Set Fire the dancer is showing actions to the lyrics as they are being said in the song. Both dancers used all three levels in their dance.
ReplyDeleteBoth performances had fast movements, motions, and energy while the music was on. Both of the made motions like in the dying swan she made a swan like shape, in set fire he made a motion looking like he was shouting when the song said shout. The dying swan's movement flowing and a little bit slow. The set fire was fast and had a fast beat to it. Both of these dancer I think used the three levels in the dance.
