Today we reviewed the ideas from Grade 6 Measurement and Geometry. 2 (front and back) worksheets were provided, which shall be completed by Friday. Tomorrow Ms Templeton is leading another investigative activity, as well as connecting Mathematics with History.
Geometry as the exploration into the characteristics of polygons and polyhedrons.
Measurement is an expression of magnitude (size) and direction with standard units. Things that we measure are above the science boards (speed, pressure, mass, length, volume, area, light, force, energy, capacity, temperature).
Polygons were subdivided into regular and irregular polygons. They can also be characterized by their Area (space within a closed polygon) and Perimeter (exterior distance, or the sum of all edges).
We also reviewed proper form, using subscript notation.
Pr = 2(l +w)
= 2(7.4 + 3.2)
= 2(10.6)
= 21.2 cm
We also reminded ourselves that when calculating Atri and Ap, the relationship between the base and height is that they are perpendicular to each other.
